Dyslexia

Dyslexia affects 1 in 5 adults and children. It is a learning difference rooted in how the brain processes language. When dyslexia is understood and supported, outcomes change!

What is Dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a difference in how the brain processes language, especially the sounds in words and how they connect to letters. It is not related to how smart you are or how hard you try, but it can cause challenges with reading, writing, and spelling. Without proper support, dyslexia can affect children and adults long‑term, in their school, work, and life. Early intervention is key!

Know the Signs of Dyslexia

If you think you or your child may have dyslexia, review common signs below. People with dyslexia usually show one or more of these traits and they tend to last over time. We’ve also created a free dyslexia screener for adults and children with help from our friends at Celebrate Dyslexia, a San Antonio non-profit founded to educate and empower people with dyslexia.
