ATTENTION MEDICAID MEMBERS!
The COVID-19 Public Health Emergency and Continuous Medicaid Coverage will soon end.
If you or your child have Medicaid or CHIP, your health care coverage and other benefits you receive will be affected. Here’s what you need to know!
What is the Public Health Emergency (PHE) and Continuous Medicaid Coverage?
The federal government declared a public health emergency (PHE) on January 27, 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a part of the PHE, Texans were allowed to keep their Medicaid/CHIP coverage without renewing, called Continuous Medicaid Coverage. Both the PHE and Continuous Medicaid Coverage are ending.
What COVID-19 flexibilities (extra benefits Members received due to the PHE) are ending?
- Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) will reinstate copays for certain CHIP medical office visits on May 12, 2023. Learn more here.
- The timeframe for the number of days Medicaid/CHIP Members can request an appeal will change from 90 days to 60 days on April 1, 2023. Learn more here.
- The timeframe for the number of days Medicaid/CHIP Members can request a State Fair Hearing (after the Community First internal appeal process) will change from 150 days to 120 days on May 12, 2023. Learn more here.
- Starting in March, SNAP recipients will see a decrease in the amount of their household’s SNAP benefits due to federal guidelines. This change cannot be appealed. To find out what your monthly benefit amount will be without the SNAP emergency allotment, log in to your account on YourTexasBenefits.com or the mobile app and go to Case Details, or call 2-1-1 and, select option 9 after selecting a language. You do not need to speak to an agent. Learn more here.
How will the End of Continuous Medicaid Coverage affect my health care coverage?
Your eligibility to receive Medicaid/CHIP benefits will be reviewed by HHSC. Community First has created a website and resources to help you understand the steps you need to take to keep your coverage, if eligible. We can also provide in-person and phone support.
