It’s April, which officially means it’s FIESTA time! If you’re from San Antonio or the surrounding area, you probably know Fiesta as a huge city-wide event that brings us all together to celebrate our heritage, culture, history, and diversity. But did you know there’s a larger purpose behind the 11-day long party, more meaningful than just wearing a flower crown or eating chicken on a stick?

Fiesta is often referred to as a “party with a purpose.” Why? Because proceeds from each Fiesta event are donated to local non-profits to help them provide essential social, cultural, and economic services to our community year-round.

As the only local, non-profit health plan in the area, Fiesta hits close to home for Community First – not just geographically, but also because our mission is similar, to serve our community. We strive to better the lives of the individuals we serve, and we put in the work to connect with and help those in need. And although we haven’t been around quite as long as Fiesta, we understand our community because we were founded here, and our employees work and live here. Our Members are our neighbors and friends.

Now for the fun part – Community First is excited to announce that we are once again participating in the 2023 Battle of Flowers and Fiesta Flambeau parades! We can’t wait to show off our float!

And what’s Fiesta without Fiesta medals?! In early April, we unveiled Community First’s 2023 Fiesta medal, inspired by our local pride and deep-rooted culture reflected in our “We Love Our Southside” mural, which includes many traditional elements associated with Fiesta, like the Missions, a carrito de paletas, a concha, and three words that the community feels best represents their experience as a San Antonian – “Family, Cultura, and Pride” – all on top of a papel picado background.

FIESTA MEDAL GIVEAWAY: If you’d like a FREE Community First Fiesta medal, donate needed items to help us stock our Community First Food Pantries. Fiesta begins April 20. We hope that you enjoy our city’s biggest “party with a purpose,” and remember to have fun and be safe. For a full list of events with dates, times, and locations, visit FiestaSanAntonio.org. And as a reminder, Fiesta is one event that we participate in on a larger scale, but you can find Community First at smaller, local events in Bexar County and its seven surrounding counties all year long.

An important message for our new STAR+PLUS Members.
