Important Information For Community First STAR+PLUS Dual Eligible Members

Oct 14, 2026 | Member News, Member Resource

Texas is expanding options that help people who have both Medicaid and Medicare receive more coordinated care. This change may impact Community First STAR+PLUS Dual Eligible Members who live in Bexar County.

Beginning January 1, 2027, Medicaid and Medicare will work together through a new integrated Medicare plan. This means your health plan for STAR+PLUS and your Medicare Advantage Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan (D-SNP) MUST be managed by the same organization.

What This Means for Community First STAR+PLUS Dual Eligible Members

If you currently have Medicare coverage through a different health plan (not Community First), you have the opportunity to enroll in Community First Medicare Advantage Bexar Dual Plan, to keep your STAR+PLUS coverage with Community First.

Community First Medicare Advantage Bexar Dual is available to Bexar County residents who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid. We contract with Medicaid and Medicare to provide benefits from BOTH programs to our dual-eligible Members.

How Do I Enroll?

We have licensed Medicare team members ready to assist you. Call 1-833-434-2347 (toll free) or 210-358-6386 (local) to speak with a trusted team member who can help you enroll and answer any questions you may have. You can also contact us for support or go to Medicare.gov to enroll during the annual Medicare open enrollment period October 15 – December 7.

What if I do NOT enroll in Community First Medicare Advantage Bexar Dual?

Beginning January 1, 2027, your Medicaid benefits will continue, but the state may assign your STAR+PLUS coverage to a different health plan organization so that your Medicare and Medicaid benefits align.

Participation in our integrated Medicare Advantage Bexar Dual plan is optional. Your Medicaid eligibility will not be affected by your Medicare choice.
